The Chinese Multiple Entry Business Visa (Types MH and MI)

China Multiple Entry VisaThe Multiple Entry Visa is a subcategory of the Business (M) and Cultural (F) visas. It is issued for either six or twelve months and allows for an unlimited number of entries, typically for stays of 30 days each. In justified exceptions, stays of 60 or even 90 days are possible. This visa is exclusively granted to businesspeople or scientists. It is not available for students and tourists, except for cruise tourists whose ships dock in Chinese ports more than twice.

If the applicant already has a Multiple Entry Visa from the last two years in their current (or a second or expired) passport, or if they have two Business Visas for China from the last two years, only a business invitation specifically issued for multiple visits within the coming year needs to be submitted.

The issuance of the Multiple-Entry Visa is subject to two conditions:

  • The invitation from the Chinese business partner must explicitly express the desire for the visa to be issued for "multiple entries over the next 6 or 12 months" with each stay lasting 30, 60, or 90 days.
  • For the 6-month visa, you must demonstrate in your passport, or with copies, that you have received at least one China visa of the same type as the one currently being applied for within the past 24 months. For the 12-month visa, two previous visas of the same type must have been obtained in the past 24 months (or already one Multiple Entry Visa).
The visa office will check the passport for any previous visas. If the submitted passport is new, the previous visa can also be proven with a photocopy from an earlier (or second) passport. These photocopies must also include a copy of the first page of the expired passport.

Validity and Duration of the Multiple Entry Visa

The China Multiple Entry Visa allows for frequent entries into China from the day of issuance for either six or twelve months. From the moment of entry, it is valid for a stay of 30 days or – in justified cases – for 60 or even 90 days.
