ESTA allows for visa-free entry for citizens of Visa Waiver Program member states, provided that they register online beforehand. It does not replace a traditional visa and is required if the stay or purpose of travel does not conform to ESTA guidelines or if the traveler's passport is from a country not participating in the Visa Waiver Program. If you already have a valid US visa, applying for ESTA is not necessary.

ESTA is available to nationals from the following countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program:

Exceptions apply in the following cases:

1. Exceptions exist for citizens of Visa Waiver countries who have been in certain countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen) after March 1, 2011, or who hold dual nationality with these countries. In such cases, a conventional visa is required.
2. Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries who also hold Iranian, Iraqi, Sudanese, or Syrian citizenship must always apply for a conventional visa directly from US authorities.
