Do British travellers need a visa for India?
Usually, yes. For an eligible short visit, an eVisa may be the appropriate option. If you hold valid Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or electronic OCI (e-OCI) status, travel with it and the British passport you will use for the journey instead of applying for an eVisa.
Which India entry option applies to you?
eVisa
For an eligible short visit on a British citizen passport. Read the India eVisa guide for British travellers for categories, documents and timing. OCI or e-OCI
Use your valid OCI/e-OCI status with the passport you will travel on. The eVisa route does not apply to you.
Regular visa
If you are travelling on a non-British passport, are not eligible for an eVisa, or your purpose is not covered by an eVisa category, confirm the regular-visa path with the High Commission of India in London or the relevant Indian consular service in the UK.
Before you travel: complete the e-Arrival Card
Foreign nationals arriving in India must submit an e-Arrival Card before immigration, during the 72 hours before arrival. It is separate from a visa or OCI/e-OCI status. Read the India e-Arrival Card guide for the arrival-information step.
