Do I need a visa for Thailand?

From 15 September 2026, British passport holders can visit Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism.

You will need an appropriate visa if you plan to stay longer, visit more than twice in a calendar year, or travel for business, work or another purpose.

Different rules may apply if you hold a non-British passport or a UK travel document.

Thailand Entry Requirements for UK Travellers

Check the key passport, visa and border requirements before you travel. Thai immigration officers make the final decision on entry.

Check Your Eligibility

From 15 September 2026, eligible British passport holders can visit Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism, with no more than two visa-exempt entries in a calendar year. UK travel document holders must obtain a visa before travel.

Passport Requirements

Your passport must expire at least six months after you arrive and have at least one blank page. Do not travel using a passport reported lost or stolen.

Visa-Free Entry Rules

Visa-free entry is for tourism only. Apply for the appropriate visa if you plan to work, conduct business, stay longer than 30 days or enter more than twice in a calendar year.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

All non-Thai nationals must submit a new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) for every entry, no more than three days before arrival. The TDAC is free and is not a visa.

Documents for Border Control

Immigration officers may ask for proof of confirmed accommodation and onward travel within 30 days. Keep these documents accessible when you arrive.

Length of Stay and Entry Conditions

Check the permitted stay recorded on arrival and do not overstay. Entry points, extensions, re-entry and special-area rules may vary.

No. Eligibility depends on your purpose, travel history, financial evidence and supporting documents. The three-year multiple-entry visa is for qualifying frequent business travellers and requires evidence of frequent business activity and at least THB 3,000,000 (£70,000) in financial evidence.
