Australia ETA for Tourism

An Australia ETA can support holidays, cruises and visits to family or friends for eligible passport holders outside Australia.

  • Multiple travel during 12 months, or until the linked passport expires if earlier.
  • Stay for up to three months on each entry.
  • Use the same passport for the application and travel.

Before choosing the ETA

  • Confirm that the passport-issuing country and passport status are ETA-eligible.
  • Applicants with criminal convictions or certain health circumstances should use the appropriate Visitor visa route instead.
  • Each traveller, including children and spouses, needs a separate application.

Separate live app step

The official Australian ETA app scans the physical passport and NFC chip, takes a live facial image and verifies the applicant's email. If an industry representative assists through the app, the applicant must be physically present. Our online form prepares and reviews the information but cannot replace these live government-app steps.

Wait for the written outcome

Many results are notified immediately, but processing can take longer if further information or verification is required. Do not rely on a fixed approval time or arrange travel before the authority confirms the grant in writing.
