Short visits
If you hold a British passport, you may travel to Thailand visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days from 15 September 2026. Passport holders from many European countries and other eligible countries and territories can also use the scheme. Check the official Thai list before you travel to confirm whether your nationality is included.
The scheme is open to British passport holders and nationals of the other countries and territories included on Thailand's visa-exemption list.
Visa-free entry covers short tourist visits only. It does not permit work, study or business activities.
The maximum permitted stay under the visa-exemption scheme is 30 days.

To apply through the London Embassy, you will normally need to live in the UK, Ireland or a British Overseas Territory and provide evidence of your residence.
Your passport or travel document needs to meet the validity and blank-page requirements for the visa you choose.
The visa you choose must cover the activities you plan to undertake in Thailand. A Tourist Visa, for example, does not permit work or business.
Your travel dates, accommodation and onward journey should make sense for the purpose and planned length of your stay.

Depending on the visa, you may also need to meet requirements relating to age, relationships, employment, insurance, medical checks or police clearance.
Passport status
Your passport or travel document determines which Thailand entry rules apply to you. Living in the UK does not automatically give you the same options as a British passport holder, and your UK immigration status also affects whether you can apply through the Royal Thai Embassy in London.

The right visa depends on what you plan to do in Thailand and how long you intend to stay. Start with the option that best reflects your trip, then review the full requirements before you apply.
A Tourist Visa may be right for you if you are travelling to Thailand for a holiday and cannot use visa-free entry, or if you plan to stay beyond the visa-free allowance.
If you are travelling for approved business, employment, teaching, investment or another professional purpose, you will need the appropriate Business Visa.
A Non-Immigrant O Visa may be right for you if you are joining family, retiring, receiving medical treatment or carrying out approved voluntary work in Thailand.
If you’re aged 50 or over and plan to live in Thailand without working, the Longstay O-A Visa may be the right option.
The DTV may be right for remote workers, freelancers and travellers taking part in certain activities approved under the scheme. Eligible family members can also apply.
Before you apply
