The "Long-Term" China Student Visa (X1 Visa) for Studies Exceeding 180 Days
To undertake a regular course of study at a university in China, you must apply for a "long-term" China Student Visa. This visa is initially issued for a single entry and must be converted into a residence permit within 30 days of arrival. The residence permit is granted for one year initially but can be extended. It allows for multiple entries and exits from China.

Required Documents
- Completed visa application (exclusively online since May 2019)
- Coloured biometric passport photo against a light background (approx. 1.4 ร 1.8 inches)
- Passport with at least 6 months validity and one blank page (two for double/multiple entries)
- Copy of the passport bio-data page with the applicant photo and passport details
- Signed privacy / data processing declaration if the application is being handled through our service
- Original admission letter from the university or academy including: institution letterhead with full address, your name and date of birth, course start/end dates, and official signature and stamp. Must be presented in original form (not a scan).
- Original official study support form issued through the Chinese education authorities together with the admission letter. Where the issuing institution provides a JW-series form, it should be signed and presented in original form rather than as a scan.
Conversion to a Residence Permit
Upon arrival in China with an X1 Visa, convert it into a residence permit at the local police station or foreign affairs office. This allows the flexibility of multiple entries and extending your stay as you continue your studies.
