FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The India Medical eVisa is an electronic travel authorisation for UK citizens seeking inpatient medical treatment, surgery or Ayurveda therapy at a recognised Indian hospital or clinic. It allows triple entry over 60 days, so you can leave and re-enter India for follow-up appointments.
Up to two close family members (spouse, parents, children or siblings) may apply for a Medical Attendant eVisa to accompany you. The attendant visa has the same validity and entry conditions as the patient’s Medical eVisa. Each attendant must submit a separate application.
You will need a valid passport (at least 6 months validity, 2 blank pages), a passport-style photo, and a system-generated hospital invitation letter from a government-recognised Indian hospital. The hospital letter must contain a unique reference ID and is mandatory from April 2025. Applications without this letter are rejected.
Medical eVisas cannot normally be extended. However, in exceptional medical circumstances, you may apply for an extension of up to 6 months through the local FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office). A letter from your treating hospital confirming the medical necessity is required.
You must enter India through one of 31 designated international airports or 5 designated seaports. Entry at land borders is not permitted on a Medical eVisa. You may exit through any authorised immigration checkpoint. Policies may change — please verify the latest entry requirements before you travel.
Processing begins once your documents are confirmed complete and payment is received. We recommend applying as early as possible to avoid delays before your treatment date.
