UK citizens can apply for an India Tourist eVisa entirely online โ€” no embassy visit required. The electronic visa is issued via the Indian government and allows leisure travel, such as tourism, visits to friends and family, and short-term yoga courses or ayurveda treatments.

Processing times: Standard 10โ€“14 ยท Premium 6โ€“8 ยท Express 1โ€“4 embassy days (Monโ€“Fri, excluding UK & Indian public holidays).

90-day annual cap (1-year & 5-year only): Although you may enter multiple times, your total time in India across all visits must not exceed 90 days within any calendar year. Each single stay may be up to 90 days for UK nationals, but once the annual limit is reached you must remain outside India for the rest of that year.
e-Arrival Card required (from 1 October 2025): All travellers entering India must complete the mandatory e-Arrival Card on the official portal (boi.gov.in) within 72 hours before arrival. This is separate from your eVisa and must be done for every entry.
No extensions or changes: Once issued, an India eVisa cannot be extended, converted to another category, or amended. The eVisa is valid for entry at 28 designated airports and 5 designated sea ports only โ€” land border crossings are not permitted.
